These scanners cause frictional damage to (often fragile) originals. These are not scanners for genealogy research in my professional archivist’s opinion. I get the willies seeing handheld scanners or roller-feed scanners touted as portable solutions. Then you’ll find recommendations for the latest in scanning technology suited to your particular genealogy research. Let’s take a look at first at scanners to avoid. 
But what if your needs lie somewhere in the middle? And most multi-function home printers include scanners that produce decent enough quality.
